Julie Fryer

Overview

Julie Fryer, born on the 10th of March, 1971 in Manchester, United Kingdom, began her artistic passion at the age of six. She worked at her ballet skills and developed her singing. At this very young age, she had already performed in many musical summer shows all over England.

At the age of twelve, Julie found her competitive edge in a new world: Ballroom and Latin American dancing. She won numerous Junior International titles and became a World Amateur finalist.

Soon, Julie found the need for more of her passion and found that in a partnership at the age of eighteen, when she moved to the Netherlands. Since then, she danced competitions with partner Louis van Amstel. Together, with the Team Amsterdam teachers and top coach Ruud Vermeij PhD., they created that new very dynamical Latin style of dancing. This new form of energetic dancing was quickly rewarded. In 1994 and 1995, the duo became 2-time World Amateur Latin Champions and 1995 European Champions in the Latin division among Amateurs. In 1996, Fryer and van Amstel won the Professional World South American Showdance Championship.

Dance After the Competitive Floor

After having won some of the most prestigious titles in the world of Ballroom Dancing, Julie decided to stop competing, but not dancing. She participated in very well-received shows with several world class Professional Ballroom and Latin dancers.

With Louis van Amstel, she performed in many American theaters their dynamical dance show “The Best of the Best”. They also danced at the prestigious Japanese show " The World Super Stars Dance Festival". The finale of this dance partnership was shown live on Dutch television. Julie and Louis performed their final dance steps together while Holland’s greatest pop star, Marco Borsato, sang his hit song "Red".

Dancing with the Stars & Other TV Performances

Producers of television dance programs in Holland (and abroad) selected Fryer to dance with national celebrities - Julie was an immediate success. In her first television series of Dancing with the Stars, she became the first winner together with national singing celebrity Jim Bakkum. In the second season, she danced with presenter Frits Sissing, coming in third. In later seasons, she not only performed, but started to choreograph as well to support performances of artists like Enrique Iglesias. Thanks to her spontaneous personality and her vast knowledge of dance, she also appeared on television as the chairperson of the Dancing with the Stars judges.

In 2011, Julie alongside Jan Kooijman, Kim-Lian van der Meij and Carlo Boszhard, were jury members of Sunday Night Fever on the RTL 4 channel.

Julie's television work continues to grow. She interviews dancers on various TV shows. She also choreographs more and more for television and has been a guest herself in several talk shows. Julie also successfully choreographs dancing in many television shows about the sixties, seventies, eighties, and nineties as well as on So You Think You Can Dance: The Next Generation.

One of a Kind

Julie is a coach at a dance school in daily life. She also accompanies the Dutch version of the dance fitness classes Dance Blast, which were introduced in America by dance partner Louis van Amstel. Fryer also regularly conducts judging at major international dance competitions and provides the choreography for participants of So You Think You Can Dance. She lives with her partner in Purmerend and has two daughters.

The transition from active dancer to professional teacher and coach went smoothly and easily for Julie. Her dancing qualities immediately attracted the finest competitive Ballroom dancers to work with her.

Julie Fryer is a spontaneous world class dance gem in many areas - as a dancer, as a coach, as a teacher, as a judge and as a choreographer. Maybe her biggest gem is that she remains a very warm and open-hearted person. She continues studying coaching skills and performance skills and is hungry to learn more and more about dance to be able to share with the National and International dancers that work with her.
